Java Sperazza, a resident of Levittown for 54 years, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. She was 82 years old. Born and raised in Pittston, PA, she was the second eldest of 7 children of Ernesto and Mafalda (Marcellini) Menichini. Java performed hard work and was employed in physically demanding hard jobs throughout her life starting from the time that she was a teenage girl when she helped her father with his poultry and eggs business. She then worked as a seamstress for a clothing factory before getting married and raising a family. Besides always being a loving and loyal wife to her husband, her greatest role was that of a devoted and loving mother to her five children who continually tested her patience throughout her motherhood but who she remained loyal to till the day she died. Always putting her family ahead of her own personal desires and her own physical health, the legacy that she left behind was that of a remarkable woman who cared deeply for the welfare of all of her family members and who did all that she could do to help keep her entire family unified. Thus, she was a faithful wife to her husband Angelo and tremendous mother to her five children - Angelo, David with his wife Lee, Andrew, Susan with her husband Scott, and Jeffrey. She also left five grandchildren and four great grandchildren who were all a constant source of joy and pride to her. Though Java had many interests and hobbies throughout her lifetime, even including a stint with belly dancing, she truly loved the outdoors and didn't mind roughing it up a little for the sake of being surrounded by nature. Between the late sixties and early nineties, Java, along with her husband Angelo, enjoyed taking camping excursions with their children or grandchildren to the mountains and shore. She loved plants, all kinds of flowers, birds, wildlife, and gardening. In her later years, she continually took rides to the local parks with her husband or children until she was no longer physically able to do so. Java was a very loyal and devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan, and she also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and rooted for Kasey Kahne. She was a Wheel of Fortune devotee for decades and also took pleasure in going to the casinos every now and then. Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Monday morning between 9:30 and 11 a.m. at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home located at 2200 Trenton Road in Levittown where her service will follow at 11. Interment will then follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the name of Java Sperazza to Chandler Hall Hospice, 99 Barclay St., Newtown, PA, 18940.
