

Jean Dupre' of Bensalem and a former resident of Levittown for 59 years, peacefully passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, while holding his wife of 65 years' hand after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was 88.Mr. Dupre' was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, NY. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and Queens College with a degree in Mathematics and Chemistry. While at Queens College he was a varsity member of the Tennis Team, a sport for which he maintained a lifelong passion. It was this sport that lead him to the love of his life, Virginia (Ginny) Lee Ennis.After graduating college, he joined the U.S. Army and was ultimately stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds where he tested ordinance. He then married Ginny and honeymooned in Miami Beach. After his honorable discharge, Jean began his chemical research and development career with the Naugatuck Chemical Company in Connecticut. In 1955, he moved to Levittown and started his 33 year employment with Rohm and Haas. This began at the Bridesburg plant and included a period at the Bristol Plant before finishing at the Spring House Research Campus. His work included developing surfactants and water soluble polymer and detergents while obtaining 21 U.S. Patents. Upon leaving Rohm and Haas in 1988, he continued consulting in his field of expertise until retiring in 1990.His 59 years of residence in Levittown were spent in the Lakeside and Snowball Gate sections where he raised his 3 children with Ginny. He enjoyed his many neighbors, friends and other members of the Safer Neighborhoods Are Possible (SNAP) Group.Before, during and after his professional career, Mr. Dupre' was able to maintain an active lifestyle. This included the Neshaminy Tennis Club at The George School and Frosty Hollow Tennis Center, boating and water skiing at Penn Warner Lake and on the Delaware River, biking and being a member of the Horse Racing Fan Club of America. He won medals in tennis, billiards and table tennis at the Pennsylvania Senior Games in the 1990's. He was a 28-year member of the Fairless Hills YMCA where he swam and exercised 3 times a week until 2 months before his passing. Mr. Dupre' enjoyed his family vacations, including summers on Long Beach Island, Sky High Lodge in the Poconos and visiting family throughout the country. In later years, he and Ginny enjoyed yearly trips to Englewood Beach, FL for 16 years. He also enjoyed Pinochle and various card games with family and friends. Mr. Dupre' is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Virginia Lee (nee Ennis) Dupre' and his loving children Denise Dupre' Kozak (Richard), Paul Dupre' (Michie) and Suzanne Skinner (Jeff).He is the devoted grandfather of Brian, Nikki, Chris, Jake, Kyle and Kelly and great grandfather of Chloe.Preceded in death by his brothers Louis and Robert, he is survived by his brother Roger Dupre' (Anne) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.Family and friends are invited to visit from 9:30 until 11 a.m. on Monday at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 480 Norristown Road, Suite 150, Blue Bell, PA 19422.
