Joan B. Manley

Joan B. Manley, formerly of Bucks County, PA died on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She was 75. Born in Philadelphia, Joan was a long time resident of Levittown before moving to Audubon in 2009. Joan was a 1954 graduate of Delhaas High School where she had an outstanding athletic career and received the "Tiger Award" for best female athlete. She was also elected Class President during her senior year. Joan was inducted into the Bristol Township School District Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. She attended West Chester State Teacher's College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in recreation. Joan received colloquy certification after attending Concordia Bronxville College in New York, making her a called minister of Christian education in the Lutheran Church. She retired in 2000 after teaching in Christian schools for more than 25 years. Although teaching and athletics were an important part of Joan's life, her family, faith and friends were her priorities. She felt blessed to be in a school where teachers cared and got involved in her life and to have a family that supported her endeavors. Joan was the high school sweetheart and beloved wife of George A. Manley for nearly 56 years. She was the daughter of Norman and Elizabeth (Corson) Anderson (both deceased). She was the loving mother of George N. Manley, David A. Manley of San Francisco, CA, Barbara J. Shipe (Darron) of Tampa, FL, Laurie A. Manley of King of Prussia, PA and Jennifer E. Roberts (James) of Collegeville, PA. She was the devoted grandmother of Devon, Katrina and Dallas Shipe and Sydney Roberts. She was the sister of Charles Anderson (Rita) and Norman "Buddy" Anderson (Lois); the sister-in-law of Rosemarie Houser, Dolores Bonatelli (Lou), Grace Ghantt (Robert) and Winnie Scenna (Joseph) and will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Joan's service and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
