

John R. Gallen of Levittown died on Friday, April 10, 2015 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was 85. Born and raised in St. Edward parish in Philadelphia, Mr. Gallen was a 1947 graduate of Roman Catholic High School. He was an original Levittown homeowner for 60 years and a founding member of Immaculate Conception parish where he was a member of the Legion of Mary. Mr. Gallen worked for the Philadelphia Bulletin and Inquirer for many years until retiring in 1995 and served as a former president of his Union. John's credo in life was "Faith, Family and Justice for the working man and woman" but most important in his life was his love for his family. Mr. Gallen was the beloved husband of Marie (Reilly) Gallen for 64 years. He was the loving father of John (Patricia), Joseph P. (Nancie), Gerard R. (Debbie), Mary E. Morlando (Damian), Eileen Dierolf (Brady), Therese A. Kelly (Mark), Patrick A. (Karen), Ann Baer (Troy) and Maureen Rago (Gary). He was the devoted grandfather of Shawn, Timothy, James (Katherine), Shawntell (Mac), Amy (Mike), Gerard, Damian (Danielle), John (Julianne), Christian, Alyssa, Joseph (Lisanne), Brady, Patrick (Heather), Jennifer, Brian, Sarah, Kevin, Caitlin, Matthew, Ryan, Carson, Alona and Ciara and great grandfather of Kayli, Delaney, Reilly, Sean, Jack, Arrianna, Aya, Ayden, Giavana, Roslyn, Massimo, Rileigh, Mason, Payton, Evan, Christopher, Nasir, Tatiana and Eddie. He is also survived by a brother Robert Anthony Gallen (Barbara); sister Lorraine Hassey and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Sarah Kennedy Gallen. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 8:15 until 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church followed by Rite of Committal at Resurrection Cemetery.
