

John George Rendeiro, Sr. died on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Attleboro Nursing Home in Langhorne after an extended illness. Born on July 21, 1931, in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, he lived in Fallsington since 1953. He was the son of James Carlos (born in Portugal) and Mary Rendeiro. John served for 33 years with the Falls Township Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant in 1987. During his law enforcement career in Falls, he headed both the patrol and detective divisions, and graduated from the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, in 1977. He was also a self-employed licensed master plumber in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. After retiring, he and his wife Charlotte worked for two years at the American Embassy in Moscow, Russia, traveling extensively in Europe during their tour of duty. Upon returning home, they traveled around the United States, visited with their children and spent time on their forty acres in Potter County, Pennsylvania, where they remodeled their old farmhouse and built a barn. Among John's many hobbies throughout his life were hunting, fishing, shooting, camping, sailing, beekeeping, woodworking, skiing, gardening, winemaking and cooking (especially Portuguese cuisine), and his greatest pleasure was to share these activities with his children and later, as "Pop-Pop" , with his grandchildren. John was a longtime member of Saint Joseph the Worker Parish in Fallsington, the Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Police. He is survived by his beloved of 58 years, Charlotte, and seven of his eight children and their spouses: John Jr. (Paula) of Charles Town, WV; Jeanne Curran (John) of Fallsington; Daniel (Leslie) of Fort Hood, TX; Sharon Bittorf (George) of Delta, PA; David (Sharon) of Fallsington, Sis Smallwood (Gary) of Middleburg, VA; and Charlene Rendeiro (Jeff Lazar) of Fallsington. He is also survived by: 16 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, James Rendeiro of Savannah, GA: his sisters Mary Klaus of Washington Crossing and Ann Bencivengo of Myrtle Beach, SC: many nieces and nephews; and his devoted Doberman, Olivia. He was predeceased by his son, James, and his sister, Margaret Tegzes Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm and on Friday, from 8:00 until 9:00 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, 10:00 am at Saint Joseph the Worker Church, 9172 New Falls Road, Fallsington. Rite of Committal will be held privately. The family has requested that memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy at Cure PSP, Executive Plaza 3, 11350 McCormick Road, Suite 916, Hunt Valley, MD 21031.
