Born in Philadelphia in 1927, Joe was a long time resident of Fairless Hills. He was a member of Saint Frances Cabrini Parish, where he served as the sacristan for many, many years. In his early years, Joe served his country with great honor; having served in both World War II and the Korean War. He started his career as a police officer in Falls Township where he met the love of his life, Terri. He later switched careers to work for Local 172, until his retirement. Not wanting to slow down, he kept busy working at his church and serving as a greeter for Dougherty Funeral Home for 30 years. In his leisure time, he loved to bowl, listen to live music in the park, go to the casino, and was always the life of the party.
Joe will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, kind spirit and strong love for his family and faith. He was a beloved member of his community; always willing to lend a helping hand and bring a smile to the faces of those around him. Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the countless people whose lives he touched throughout his long and remarkable life.
Beloved husband of 66 years to his soulmate, Theresa D. "Terri" (Fedor), Mr. Merrick is the loving father of Terry Bernard (Dennis), Rose Wilker (Joe), Joe Merrick (Ann), Tim Merrick, and John Merrick (Marge).
