Born on August 25, 1936, Richard was the son of Joseph Roth and Johanna Bievenour and one of eight siblings. He lived a long and meaningful life centered on faith, education, and family. In the early chapter of his life, he served as a Christian Brother, dedicating himself to teaching in underserved communities. That commitment to education remained a constant throughout his life.
Richard went on to spend his career as a beloved math teacher at Harry S. Truman High School and Bucks County Community College, where he inspired countless students with his knowledge, patience, and sense of humor.
He was the devoted husband of Joan (White) Roth. Together, they raised five children: John, Greg, Chris (Abbey), Katie (David), and Carolyn, who passed away as a child. Richard was a proud and loving grandfather to Tristen, Tessa, Tiana, Rion, Thomas, Bryan, Charlie, Elizabeth, and Bernadette, all of whom he adored.
Richard was known for his great sense of humor and his gift for storytelling. He was close with his many nieces and nephews, sharing laughter, memories, and a strong sense of family. He held a special bond with his niece, Dianne Roth Wojciechowski, whom he considered like a daughter.
Some of the family’s most cherished memories were made during annual summer vacations to Worlds End State Park, where they stayed in a cabin and gathered around the campfire, listening to Richard’s stories.
Outside of the classroom, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid reader, especially of murder mysteries, and loved spending time playing cards—particularly Bridge and Phase 10—with family and friends. He also had a fondness for pickles and hard pretzels, small favorites that brought him everyday happiness.
