On Saturday, September 27th, 2025, William L. Ashcraft passed away peacefully at the age of 75, with his sons by his side. A lifelong resident of the Levittown and Yardley area, he was a beloved father, grandfather, neighbor, teacher, Marine, and friend whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born in 1950, Bill was a proud graduate of Pennsbury High School, class of 1968. Following high school, he honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, where he learned the values of discipline, loyalty, and service that would guide him throughout his life. After his military service, he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Trenton State College and later completed his master’s degree at Rider University. His love for learning was reflected in his distinguished career as a high school calculus teacher. He was admired not only for his knowledge and teaching expertise but also for the wisdom he imparted to his students. Always looking for ways to connect with his students, Bill would bring in his yo-yos to show them a trick or two as a fun break. Mr. A's classroom was a place where laughter, life lessons, and learning came together. Many of his former students would say he was one of the most influential teachers they ever had.
A man of many passions, Bill had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, photography, and woodworking—skills that he mastered over the years and shared with those around him. Whether he was creating a special woodwork project, capturing nature through his camera lens or casting a line with his Fishing buddy, Stan, Bill was happiest when immersed in these activities.
He was well liked by his neighbors and cherished the time spent with them, often enjoying games of cornhole that brought laughter and connection to the neighborhood.
Most of all, Bill was a devoted family man. He treasured the time spent with his family. He loved spending time with his granddaughters, especially their days spent at the beach. He took immense pride in watching them grow and excel, whether on the softball field, in the school choir, or on stage in musicals. He was their biggest fan and found great joy in supporting their passions and accomplishments.
Thanksgiving has long been a most cherished time for Bill and his family. Following Thanksgiving dinner, the family always gathers to sing their favorite Christmas carols - filling the house with music, laughter, and the spirit of the season. The next day is the annual walk in the woods. A 40-year tradition that has been engraved in the hearts of Bill and his brother-in-law Bob, sons, nephews, great nephews and now granddaughters. These traditions reflect his deep love for his family and the simple, meaningful moments that bound them together across generations.
Bill is survived by his sons, Christopher (Kristina) and Jonathan; his cherished granddaughters Brooke and Callie; his beloved grandpup Ruby, who was a faithful companion and brought him comfort and joy in his later years; and many friends and family members whose lives he touched. He is predeceased by his parents James and Louise Ashcraft, as well as his siblings James, Leslie, Mary Lou, and Richard.
A memorial gathering for Bill will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056. A committal service with full military honors will occur Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, Pennsylvania 18940.
