William D. Pfender, 95, of Philadelphia died peacefully, surrounded by family at Jefferson Hospital on January 27, 2026. Born June 30, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the only child of the late Mary (O’Connor) Pfender. He attended St. Anne’s Catholic Elementary school and North Catholic High School. Beloved husband of the late Maureen (O’Donnell) Pfender and is survived by his children William, Jr. (Kathleen) James (Kathleen) Robert (Patricia) Joseph (Cindy), Thomas (Susan) and Maureen (Marylin). He also leaves behind seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
William proudly joined the Marines at age seventeen to serve his country. Upon discharge from the Marine Corps, he took a job at Philco Ford where he met the love of his life, Maureen O’Donnell. They married in 1954 and started their family. He joined the Philadelphia Police Department, serving the twenty-sixth district for six years. At his wife’s urging he switched careers, joining the trucking industry as a salesman, a career that lasted nearly forty years.
William was a talented salesman known for his charisma, quick wit, and ability to connect with people. One of his greatest joys was a family & friends gathering around the kitchen table. He always knew how to have a good time. His laughter, stories and larger-than-life presence made every room brighter. He rolled with the punches better than most, which perhaps explained his love for boxing, the only sport he’d ever watch.
Throughout life he was sustained by his deep faith in and devotion to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
William loved his children and grandchildren and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
