

LEWISTON - Algernon "Al" E. Collins, Jr., 71, a resident of 201 Harmons Corner Rd., Auburn died Wednesday, February 25th at St. Mary's d'Youville Pavilion with family by his side following a long illness. He was born in Portland, September 16, 1937, the son Algernon E. and Dolly (Copeland) Collins, Sr. He attended Portland schools and then came to this area in 1972 where he met and married the former Eldora Goding. Al was employed 17 years at Etonic Shoe until their closing, and then retired from Morin Brick Company in 2006. Al was an avid bowler and had achieved bowler of the month at Sparetime Recreation. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping for over 20 years at Martin Stream Campground in Turner. He was also great dancer. He was also "Mr. Fix-It" and was a welcome sight to family, friends, and neighbors whenever anything needed to be fixed, and was an all around good guy. Traveling to Nashville, Branson, and North Carolina with good friends Mary and Eric, Bertie and Dennis, and Ron and Louise was something he and Eldora truly loved. Survivors include his wife Eldora of Auburn; their children, Algernon III and Allison; Michael and Lisa; Timothy and Debbie; Robert and Monique;David and Diane; Jody and Lottie; Judy and Scott; and Patrick and Krystal; his sisters, Georgia Thompson, Hazel Martin, and Barbara Horr. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. COLLINS died in Lewiston, February 25, 2009, Mr. Algernon "Al" E. Collins, Jr., age 71 years a resident of Auburn. Funeral services honoring Al's Life will be held SATURDAY 1:00PM at the Memorial Chapel of Dillingham & Son with Pastor Arthur Lawlor presiding. Spring burial with graveside committal prayers will be held at Penley Corner Cemetery, Auburn.
