Bernadette M. Miller

PORTLAND- Bernadette (Becky) Mae Miller, 97, of Buxton, died Tuesday June 2, 2015 at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a short illness. She was born in Gorham, New Hampshire on February 10, 1918 the daughter of the late John W. and Ellen (Wight) MacKenzie. She was educated in Gorham and Berlin New Hampshire schools. In 1932 she moved to Lisbon and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1935 Salutatorian. In 1937 she married Cedric Miller; he died on January 22, 1972. She was employed at Fanny Farmer Candy Shop, Cummings Cleaners and the Bates Mill for several years. In 1983, she retired from Clark Shoe Company after twenty-seven years of working in the office. She was a member of the First Universalist Church in Auburn. Becky lived on Goff Street in Auburn until 2005, when moved to Montello Heights for three years. In 2008, she moved to Gray to live with her sister, Iona Hendricks. In 2012, she moved back to Buxton to live with her nephew Richard Hendricks and his wife Nancy.

Becky was an avid reader from an early age and a lover of flowers. She had an extensive correspondence of friends keeping in touch over the years. She loved traveling Downeast with her family and friends. She is survived by her sister Iona Hendricks; nephews Richard Hendricks and his wife Nancy, Daniel Hendricks and William MacKenzie and his wife Lisa; nieces Mary Rocheleau and her husband Ronald and Marilyn Burgess; sister-in-laws Simone Mackenzie and Audrey Miller; and a Special Sister Beulah “Dolly” Johnson.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by a sister Mercia Smith of Gorham, New Hampshire; and a brother Melvin MacKenzie of both Lewiston and Sidney.
