Doris was born on March 23, 1934, to Fred and Lydia (Guy) Carignan in Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1952. She married George C. Fournier in June 1956. They were married for 53 years until his passing in 2010.
Doris was an amazing percussionist in high school. She was honored to play in the All New England Marching Band and played timpani (kettle drums) in the Junior Symphony.
She worked for the American Red Cross in the late 60’s and 1970’s then at the Lewiston Auburn Chamber of Commerce from which she retired. She and George enjoyed camping in their RV and wintering in Florida.
Her greatest love was being Mom to her six children. Her children and family were truly her labor of love. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and had a great sense of humor right to the end. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children Raymond (Mila) Dan (Debbie), Susan Collins (Doug), Joline Vachon (Ray) and Jim and Robert Fournier, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband George Fournier, sister, Irene Major, half sister Stella Carignan, and half brother Ben Carignan.
The family would like to thank all the very special people in the Memory Unit at Schooner Estates and Androscoggin Home Health who took such very good care of our Mother. She loved you all.
