

LEWISTON - Edith E. Mason, 94, a resident of Hogan Rd., Lewiston formerly of Auburn died Saturday evening at Montello Manor following a brief illness. She was born in Peabody, Mass., January 6, 1914, the daughter of Oliver and Margaret (Normandeau) La Fountaine. Edith moved to Auburn at a young age, and met and married her childhood sweetheart, Roy A. Mason. Together, with her husband, Roy, they operated the former Roller Skating Rink at Lewiston Fair Grounds for many years. She was also a former Girl Scout leader, and will always be remembered for her sense of humor.She was also noted, as a "Cook of the Week" in a recent Sun Journal article. Her love of cooking and baking was demonstrated by her annual 4th of July family gatherings which she enjoyed, and later in life being a cook's helper at Montello Manor. She also volunteered to teach Montello Manor residents arts and crafts which she enjoyed, and her love for music and family gatherings were also a big part of her happiness in life. Survivors include one daughter, Ann Mason Palmer and husband, Owen of Lewiston; two grandchildren, Christopher Palmer and wife Anna of Lewiston, and Betsy Shivers and husband, Zachary of Fryeburg; three great grandchildren, Nicole, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Shivers all of Fryeberg. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and special friends who will always cherish her memory. She also leaves behind her devoted German Shepard, "Royal" and her cat, "Grizabelle." She was predeceased by her husband, Roy A. Mason and several brothers and sisters. MASON died in Lewiston, December 6, 2008, Mrs. Edith E. Mason age 94 years formerly of Auburn. A Celebration of Life service honoring Edith's life will be held SATURDAY, December 13th at 11:00AM from the Memorial Chapel of Dillingham & Son with her grandson, Christopher Palmer presiding.
