Gerald N. Mathieu
September 17, 1962 – January 27, 2024
Lisbon- Gerald “Gerry to some” N. Mathieu passed away suddenly while doing what he enjoyed best, working outside.
Gerald was born in Lewiston on September 17, 1962, the first son of Laurier and Doris (Robitaille) Mathieu. He attended Holy Cross School and Lewiston High School. Gerald was taught strong work ethics from his parents. He started delivering newspapers for the Lewiston Sun Journal to over a hundred customers (from Cedar St to the end of Goddard Rd) daily at the age of 12. After high school, Gerald worked for Country Kitchen and then Hannel Brothers Corporation. His Uncle Andy, who worked for Hannel Brothers, opened the door for him. This is where Gerald found his passion. He enjoyed working with metal! He loved bending, grinding, welding; big and small metal projects of any sort. He excelled in his field and took great pride in everything he did. Most of his career was spent working for Bath Iron Works (BIW) and Downeast Machine and Engineering (DEME), both top notch for a metal fabricator.
In 2015, Gerald was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia and was sent to Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston for a month of intensive chemotherapy treatments, followed by additional treatments and about five years later he was declared cured!
Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family, his extended family and friends. Always a great conversationalist; knowledgeable in so many different topics. And always the comedian and life of the party. He always made friends easily, everyone enjoyed his positive attitude, insight on various topics, and his endless supply of jokes and good humor. Gerald always loved a good game of chess, playing cribbage, which he learned at a young age from his parents and enjoyed Sunday morning cribbage games after attending church.
Gerald was always there to help his family and friends with whatever help was needed. He was involved in and supported various organizations throughout his life.
Gerald was an exceptional man and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Joline Nash.
Gerald is survived by his brother Victor and wife Celeste Mathieu, brother Roger and his wife Teresa Mathieu, sister Julie and her husband Shaine Hendricks, several nieces and nephews and aunts, uncles and cousins.
