Born on May 1, 1941, in Bath, Maine, Gordon was the son of the late Linwood Koehling Sr. and Helen Webster. He was raised in Freeport, Maine, where he attended school before proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962, specializing in Artillery. After his military service, he worked in local shoe factories and later joined L.L.Bean, where he remained until his retirement.
Gordon lived a life full of passion, creativity, and quiet strength. He shared a special bond with his grandmother, Jennie Koehling, who helped raise him and played a lasting role in shaping the man he became.
He raced horses at the track, raised prized rabbits, and had a love for agricultural fairs. He enjoyed raising doves, tumbling rocks into polished gemstones to craft handmade jewelry, and keeping bees to produce all-natural items like honey, creams, and lip balms. Gordon had a deep passion for plants and gardening, taking great pride in nurturing life from the ground up. He also loved dancing, spending time outdoors, and sharing laughter over coffee at diners with close friends.
On the CB radio, he was known as “Sleepy”, a handle fondly remembered by many. Gordon had a creative and giving spirit and will be remembered for his talents, warm heart, and down-to-earth wisdom.
He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Koehling Weeks, Lori (Dan) Wiley, and Krystal (Kirk) Ingalls; his beloved grandsons, Ryan Weeks, Brandon Weeks, Logan Wiley, and Noah Wiley; and his great-granddaughter, Emma Weeks. He is also survived by his partner of 20 years, Linda Kilkenny, along with many dear friends and extended family members.
A private service will be held at a later date.
He’ll be remembered often with a smile — and his favorite saying: “Oh boy.”
