“If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember: You are stronger than you believe, braver than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart…I’ll always be with you.” –Winnie the Pooh
James Dennis “JD” Kimsey died unexpectedly at his home in Lewiston, Maine on February 12th, 2020.
Known for his sweet smile and charming demeanor, he was loved by all who knew him. He was an introspective thinker who analyzed the world around him, seeing the beauty in everything, from a miniscule speck in the smallest rock to the vastness of the clouds in the sky. He loved being out in nature and was a talented drummer and skateboarder…and he had the best “knee slapper” jokes. (In fact, he usually came up with several knee slappers in rapid succession.)
He had a huge heart and his proclamations of “I love you” to those he cared about often came completely unprovoked, wholly genuine, and usually with several other words uniquely tailored to the person. If he loved someone, he made sure they knew it, and he always seemed on a mission to ensure their happiness. Everyone has a story of a time he made them feel better with a smile or a laugh or a joke…or maybe providing an alternate perspective on their problems, troubles, and worries. He was a brightly shining star of joy in the lives of his family and friends and even those who only met him once or twice, and the world is a little less bright without him. But, for those fortunate enough to know him, their lives are that much brighter for having known him in his too short life.
He is survived by his mother Sabrina Dunn (John); his father Dennis Kimsey (of Arkansas); his sisters Rebecca Maness (Roger), Sarah Wickham (Mark), and Jessica Scott (of Abbeville, SC); his nieces and nephews, Jordan Clouse of Kansas, Marissa and Jakob Maness, and Miranda and Brady Scott (of Abbeville, SC); the love of his life Shannon; “his girls” Kathryn and Dakotah; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including Suzanne Wilson and Michael Moore, whom he was very close with in the last year of his life.
He was predeceased by his best friend, Cody Alexander; his cousins Paisley Elliott and Sarah Lynn Wilson; his grandfathers Julius Kimsey and Hugh Wilson; grandmothers Thelma Wilson and Mary Dunn; sister Mandy McCall; uncle Kenneth Wilson; and aunts Phyllis Wilson and Linda Teague.
A memorial service will be held in South Carolina at a later date.
