Judy was born in 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Jack Winter, a New Yorker, and Lucy Frierson, a native of South Carolina. She attended Midwood High School--Woody Allen’s alma mater, as she liked telling people. She then studied at Cornell University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in the teaching of science.
She moved to Massachusetts in 1969 where she taught 7th grade biology in Newton for five years. She married Martin Andrucki in 1971, moving with him to Maine in 1974, where she taught for one year at Auburn Middle School.
In 1975 she enrolled at the University of Maine School of Law, graduating with a J.D. degree in 1979. She then practiced law in Lewiston, Maine until 2021, eventually founding her own firm, Andrucki Law, specializing in family matters. She was a widely respected and frequently honored member of the Maine bar.
She also served as a trustee of the University of Maine, and a member of the board of directors of St. Mary's Hospital.
In addition, beginning in high school, Judy participated energetically in the musical life of her community.
While at Cornell, she sang with the Notables, a women’s group that was invited by the USO to perform for American troops throughout the Caribbean—an experience that included singing on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Every year from 1974 to 2020 she sang with the Androscoggin Chorale which became The Maine Music Society, a group she helped organize and on whose board she served. She was founding-organizer of The Battle of the Blends, an annual fund-raising concert of a cappella vocal groups from the northeast. She also sang semi-professionally throughout Maine with Top 40, an a cappella group specializing in doo-wop and other early rock music.
Judy was loved and admired for her intelligence, sense of humor, and sharp wit; her vivid personality; and her warmth as a friend and hostess.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Martin, and her son, Max, 48.
