

SCARBOROUGH- Marilynn Brown Ames passed away on January 8th at the Maine Veterans' Home in Scarborough with her daughters and niece, Ginger Brown, keeping her company. She was born in Leeds. Maine on July 18, 1918 as the daughter of Edwin and Margeurita Rogers Brown. She attended the Presumpscot School in Portland, Webster School in Auburn, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1936 and from Bliss Business College in 1938. After graduation from Bliss, Marilynn worked in the offices of Bickford Moccasin and Maine Shoes before moving to Baltimore, Maryland to work for the Social Security Administration. After many years as a homemaker Marilynn was employed as secretary to the librarian at Edward Little High School from 1962 to 1979, working with Dorothy Kern who was the librarian and Marilynn's dear friend. Marilynn married Byron Ames in 1943 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It was the beginning of a love affair that lasted 63 years. Their relationship was one of mutual love and respect along with big doses of humor and generosity. Marilynn's passions were knitting, embroidery, quilting, genealogy, playing the organ and being a member of the Edward Little High School class of 1936 reunion committee with her special friends George and Ruth Benjamin. She was an active member of the Auburn Methodist Church. Marilynn is survived by her daughters, Judith Legendre and her husband Peter, Karen Eames and her former husband Michael Myrick; grandchildren Rick Legendre and his wife Cathy, Mason Legendre and his wife Sarah, Addie Lucas and her husband Rob, and Meghan Myrick; great grandchildren Matthew Legendre, Summer and Atticus Legendre, Quincy and Jackson Lucas. She was predeceased by her husband Byron, her brother Carleton Brown and her great-granddaughter Heather Legendre. Marilynn was a kind and loving woman who will live on within us. AMES died in Scarborough, January 8, 2013, Mrs. Marilyn B. age 94 years a resident of Auburn. Memorial services honoring Marilynn’s life will be held May 18th, Saturday 10:00AM at the United Methodist Church in Auburn. Graveside committal prayers to follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
