Mildred P. Darling

Mildred P. Darling, 83 of Sabattus, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. Born January 24, 1929 to Arthur and Janet (Forrest) Wright. She was one of thirteen children raised in Sabattus and educated in Sabattus schools. She married Everett N. Darling August 17, 1946. They made their home in Litchfield from April 1949 until Everett’s death May 3, 1987 when Mildred returned to Sabattus. Although they did not have children they did have a full life together. They spent their time working at their home in Litchfield, gardening, raising animals and working their land. Vacations were always spent camping, and fishing. And during their time together in Litchfield they never missed a Litchfield Fair. Mildred worked in woolen mills most of her life and retired from the Sabattus Rubber Heel in April 1982. She was known for her caring heart, her sense of humor and “Scottish stubbornness”. Mildred was the keeper of the family history and the resource everyone went to for the needed addresses and phone numbers of family and friends. She was a member of the Sabattus American Legion Post 135 Auxiliary and the Sabattus Community Baptist Church. She is survived by “The daughter I never had.” Patricia Albert-Dehetre and her husband Paul Dehetre, sister Shirley Duquette of Sabattus, sisters-in-law Veda Wright of Lewiston, Dorothy Wright of Auburn, Rowena Wright of Sabattus, and Rita Wright of Sabattus, and 22 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers; Philip, James, Albion, George, Wallace and Robert, and sisters; Alice, Roberta, Edna, Mary, and Margaret. Visitation at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 7 PM with a Funeral Service following at 7:00 PM. Burial in the spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sabattus.
