

AUBURN - Normand F. Ouellette 88, passed away peacefully Saturday September 14th at Clover Health Care following a long illness. He was born in Auburn on August 6, 1925 to the parents of Marie-Anna and Edmond Ouellette. Normand grew up in Auburn and Lewiston in a musical family. He played bass fiddle in the “Ouellette Trio” along with his sister Laurianne on the violin and his brother Gratien on the piano. During World War II, Normand served his country in the United States Navy as a gunner on a merchant ship off the coast of North Africa. After the war, he returned to Lewiston where he met and married Marie May Chasse on November 22, 1947. Normand was employed for the Maine Central Railroad for many years, and was a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Norm continued to play bass in various musical groups in the Lewiston and Auburn area. He was also a “Jack of All Trades” buying and selling numerous properties in Central Maine. Survivors include his children, Jeannine Peyser and husband Ronald of Auburn, Claudette Croteau and husband Steve of Limington, Raymond Ouellette and fiancé Barbara Robitaille of Auburn, and Paul Ouellette and wife Mona of Auburn. Also surviving are six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marie in 2011 as well as a brother Gratien and a sister Laurianne.
