Roland was born on July 11, 1936, in Livermore, Maine. He joined the United States Air Force in 1954 and proudly served until 1963, when he was honorably discharged. While stationed at the Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina, he met the love of his life, Bonnie, and the two were married in June of 1960. Roland and Bonnie shared 64 wonderful years together before her unexpected passing in 2024.
Together they raised two sons, Philip R. Perry of Turner, Maine, and Joseph M. Perry of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Roland was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found joy in family gatherings, working in his vegetable garden, and tinkering around the house. He spent most of his career as an auto mechanic for the federal government at the Air Force base in North Charleston, South Carolina.
In 2024, Roland returned to Maine and lived with his son and daughter-in-law for several months before moving to the Maine Veterans' Home in South Paris, where he received kind and compassionate care.
Roland was predeceased by his beloved wife, Bonnie J. Perry; his parents, Philip and Margaret Perry; his brothers Albert and Arthur Perry; and his sister Theresa Moody.
He is survived by his sons, Philip R. Perry and his wife Nancy, and Joseph M. Perry; his sister Josephine Biron; his brother Meddy Perry and his wife Sue; and his sister Clara Glendenning. He also leaves behind three granddaughters — Jessica Kimball and her husband Nick, Sarah Perry and her fiancé Tom Vickery, and Kayla Blankenship and her husband Matt — as well as one great-granddaughter, five great-grandsons, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Maine Veterans' Home in South Paris for their dedicated care and support of Roland in his final months. They would also like to thank AndWell Hospice for their care and support of Roland during his final days.
