

SABATTUS - Romeo "Chuck" Poirier, 85, of Sabattus died at his home on Sunday with his wife by his side. He fought a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Chuck was born in Lewiston on December 2, 1922, the son of Louis and Rose (Demers) Poirier. He worked many years in the local mills where he met his wife. He also worked at Sears, Peck's, and lastly at Hall & Knight. In Chuck's younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey and played on the 1950 Bates Mill team that won a national championship and earned a trip to Europe. He was also proud of his hockey achievements, and to be a member of the Lewiston Auburn Sports Hall of Fame. He was a World War II veteran and belonged to the American Legion Post #135. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus. He married the former Lorraine Poulin on April 29, 1960. They enjoyed 48 years together. Lorraine will miss her great dance partner which they enjoyed as their past time every Saturday night. Besides his wife, Lorraine he is survived by two sons, Daniel Coulombe and wife Sue of Sabattus, and Richard "Dick" Coulombe and wife Elizabeth of Colorado; five daughters, Claire Langlais and husband, Roy of Florida; Sheryl Ouellette and husband, Andre of Lewiston; Kathleen Rines and husband, William of Monmouth; Linda Guerette and husband, Joel of Wales; and Lorrie Sirois and husband Christopher of Greene; one brother, Henry Poirier and wife, Grace of California, and one sister, Jeannette Sirois of Lewiston. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Lastly survived by his faithful companion, "Shannon." He was predeceased by one grandson, Christian Sirois of Greene; 3 brothers Leo, Louis, and Marcel Poirier as well as one sister Yvonne Hill. "Chuck" Poirier age 85 years a resident of Sabattus. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Romeo's life will be celebrated FRIDAY 11:00AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Sabattus. Committal prayers followed by military honors will be held at Maine Veterans Cemetery Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
