

LEWISTON – Susan S. Downing, 61, a resident of Woodman Hill Rd., Minot passed away peacefully Sunday morning June 14th at Central Maine Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Norway, September 14, 1947, the daughter of Robert and Pauline (Young) Smith. She was a 1965 graduate of Oxford Hills High School. Following her education was employed in the finance and insurance industry. She married George “Buster” Downing On July 15, 1967. She was employed as vice president of the family business for many years and most recently ran Nana’s Day Care for her grandchildren with joy. Susan enjoyed spending time with her family and attending grandchildren’s events especially baseball games. Survivors include her husband, “Buster” of Minot, her two beloved children, daughter, Beth Ducharme and husband, David of Auburn; her son, Bradd and his wife Debbie of Poland; her three grandchildren, Brady Downing, Gage and Grace Ducharme; a sister, Eleanor Noose of Springfield, MO; as well as several nieces, nephews, and close friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Mary Hennessy, a brother, Robert Smith, Jr., a sister in law, Barbara Logan, and her father in law, Roland Downing. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all her doctors, and especially the ER staff, and ICU staff who were so kind and thoughtful to her and her family as well as a great thanks and gratitude to Minot Rescue during her illness. Susan’s love and generosity will live on hopefully by many others by her generous gift of organ donation. DOWNING died in Lewiston, June 14, 2009, Mrs. Susan S.
