Born on May 31, 1938, in Canada, Yvon moved to Maine at the age of 15, unable to speak English. At the time, he was in the ninth grade, but because of the language barrier, the school attempted to place him in the fifth grade. Instead, he chose to leave school and begin working, eventually building a life rooted in hard work and perseverance. His last residence was on Stevens Mill Road in Auburn.
Yvon was a dedicated and hardworking man, best known as the proud owner of Gallant Flooring, a successful business he operated throughout his life. When he wasn’t installing floors or handling business matters, he could often be found hunting or fishing—two of his favorite pastimes.
A man of routine, Yvon faithfully started each morning with Cheerios and a banana, a tradition he upheld for 53 years.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Thelma Gallant.
Yvon leaves behind his son, Donald Gallant, and his wife, Julie; his stepchildren, Jackie Hawk and her husband, Larry, Gloria Ames, Cindy Harrington, and Randy Schenk and his wife, Laurie. He is also survived by his sister, Elemy Martel.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. The celebration will continue at American Legion Post 31, 426 Washington Street, Auburn.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the owner and staff at Roy’s Restaurant, where Yvon ate lunch daily. He was treated like family and cherished everyone there. They would also like to thank Clover Manor for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Yvon.
