It was the happiest day of my life when I found out I was pregnant with Aleshia. The doctors also found out I had cancer, and urged me to abort my baby; so I could deal with cancer. How could I kill my baby and that is what abortion is! With my bad heart and all, I chose to love no matter what. 8 months later, I held my baby girl in my arms, 10 pink little toes, a full head of dark hair, perfect cuticles and blue eyes, as those eyes looked up to me. She melted my heart. Then came the day of my Stroke, I was on a Ventilator, unconscious at Piedmont Hospital, Rock Hill, SC. For four months this went on. Aleshia was the first face I saw when I woke. I couldn't move my legs, and Aleshia said to me, "Legs or no legs, I chose to love you no matter what." She cared for me and told me how much she loved me! She was the most precious gift in my life and she is in my heart always. Beautiful Aleshia, pray for me, pray for all of us!

Aleshia was the most loving person We knew her since she was in elementary school. She was always smiling. Though she will be greatly missed, we are so thankful she was a part of our family. She is known for her cheesecakes and shared a few of her secrets with me, but not all of them.
We will always remember the day Aleshia and Derek were married. We arrived at the court house and it was in the process of being evacuated due to smoke. We went to get some lunch and neither one of them could eat a thing. When we went back, we found out the magistrate was working in the jail section, so had to wait there, along with others waiting to be married. We let one couple go ahead of us and the process seemed to be going rather fast, but when it was their turn, a new magistrate performed their marriage ceremony and it was perfect! He said it was the best thing he had done all day. We love you and will miss you greatly!

Aleshia brought joy and life to every room she entered. She had a God-given gift to openly accept and love everyone she encountered. She understood the deeper meaning of life and was always a source of encouragement and wisdom. At the same time, I’ll never forget her infectious laugh and ability to never take herself too seriously. Like when she finally found out after about three years that my amazing mashed potatoes she requested every year were actually store bought. We all laughed so hard. I’ll miss her walking through the door at family events and hearing her “Hey Hun, Good to see you!” greetings. She greeted everyone with the same love and interest and was always eager to find out how you were doing and if there was anything new happening in your life. She truly cared for people. She absolutely loved cooking and made the most amazing homemade cheesecakes. She loved her family fiercely and I know she was happy. She was the best sister I could’ve asked for. I just wish I had more time with you.
