

CHAPIN - Alma Busse Jowett Johnson died on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Lexington Medical Center in South Carolina. Alma was born in 1922 and was a long-term resident of Cape May, until she retired and moved to Fort Myers Beach, FL in 1980. She was Administrator of Crest Haven Nursing Home and was active in the community, serving as President of the Rotary Ann's, and Grand Officer of Eastern Star Chapter 156. She also served as organist and choir director of Cape May Methodist Church. During her retirement, Alma was active in her community in the Bayside Estates Homeowners Assn., and Director of the Bayside Choraliers. She was a member of Chapel by the Sea and United Church of Christ.
In 2014 Alma moved to Chapin, South Carolina to live with her nephew, William Jay Hess and his wife, Elena C. Hess, her survivors. Other surviving members of her family are Marjorie Fennessy, Ralph N. Kindig, Joan Brower, Karen Dunn, and Rita Veres. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, William Shaw Hess, Sr. and Marion Busse Hess; her husbands, Thomas Jowett, Robert Johnson, and her brother, William Shaw Hess, Jr.
Graveside services are planned for Saturday March 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cold Spring Presbyterian Church in Cold Spring, NJ.
