May the powerful words recorded in the Bible at Matthew 5:4 encourage and strengthen your saddened heart.

Dear "Cuz",
With tears and smiles is how I will always think of you.  
Some of the happiest days of my life were spent with you and Tommy and my family in  Cape May. 
  As a teenager you were my idol.  You were beautiful, tan, wore a two piece bathing suit and lots of scarab bracelets.  I wanted to be just like you.   You played the piano, sang, and to me were a 
"modern" women.   I loved your independent spirit and learned from you.   
   You handled tradgedies in your life without complaining and with strength.  I learned from you at those times as well.  Your words ,
"You're strong Marge, you can handle this" rang in my ears when I needed them and always will.
    Those many summers in Cape May taught me many things but one of the best lessons learned, was how fortunate I was to be a part of our family and laugh and enjoy each other as we did.  
    We didn't leave the laughs in New Jersey, we were fortunate to still have them together in Florida.
    I will miss your laugh, your piano playing, our "happy hours" and you strength but carry them in my heart until we meet again.
    I love you "Cuz"

Rest in Peace, Cousin Alma, as you join all the beautiful people in our family in Heaven.  Their piano player is reunited with them, and I guess that God needed a choir director. 
I had the pleasure of knowing Alma from my birth and I got to know her as I grew up during the summers I spent in Cape May, on Washington St, Maryland Ave, and Michigan Ave. She bought me a dog when I was about 7 which was my first pet. As I grew old enough to enjoy the "gatherings/happy hours" and music in Uncle Bill and Aunt Marion's basement, Uncle Harrys', the American Legion, and the perfect beaches of Cape May, I learned what "family" was really supposed to be. In later years, my sister Marjorie and I were able to visit with Alma in Ft Myers Beach and enjoyed every minute. I hope that some of you rubbed off on me.
Thank you for the many memories, Alma, you were one of a kind and I love you.

A graveside service will be held for Alma B. Johnson March 18, 11 AM at the Cold Spring Presbyterian Church (Old Red Brick) , 780 Seashore Road. Cold Spring, N.J. 08204. Rev. Jeanette Block of Cape May United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Flowers may be sent to to the above address. The plot number is F-11 in the southwest side of the cemetery. William Jay Hess (Bill)

Thank you CAUGHMAN-HARMAN  for providing a thoughtful and respectful opportunity to honor our Aunt Alma. She was very close to our family and myself since I was born and raised in Cape May. For many years after the passing of my Father William S. Hess Jr., her brother, she was our closest living relative, and made a difference in our lives from the beginning.

A funny story, I started first grade in Cape May Elementary and was one of the youngest boys to enter first grade. I struggled with the teachers proposal to advance me to a higher level of reading and my Aunt Alma took me to meet with Mrs. McGonigal and the two of them convinced a 5 year old boy to take on the Academic Reading class. That single decision early on helped pave the way for all my future endeavors. Thank you Aunt Alma for making a huge difference in my life and may you find peace and happiness in heaven.
