
COLUMBIA – Arthur W. Hogan “Bill” was born on October 8, 1939, in Ashtabula, OH, and passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020. He is the eldest son of the late Arthur and Antonia (Herle) Hogan of Ashtabula, OH. He graduated from Edgewood High school in 1957 and attended Kent State University majoring in Business Administration. He also served as a Commanding Officer in the Army National Guard Armored Detachment. In 1965, he married the former Ada Dickinson of Dubois, PA. They have two loving children.
During Mr. Hogan’s career, he worked as a marketing and sales executive for major manufacturers Stanley Tools, Vermont American, and Clauss Cutlery. He retired in 2004 and, during retirement, stayed active working for National Car Rental.
Bill was an active member and council leader at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC. He was also an active member of the VFW Post 8738 of Lexington. Throughout his life, his greatest joy was music and he loved to sing and dance.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ada, his parents, and an infant brother. He is survived by his daughter, Lora Matthews and her husband, Don of Rock Hill, SC, and his son, Brian Hogan and his wife, Goldy of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves behind his grandsons, Adam Pierce Matthews of Matthews, NC, Ian Kenneth Matthews of Rock Hill, SC, and Justice Adam Hogan of Las Vegas, NV; his dear companion, Von Goff of Lexington, SC and his brothers, Thomas Hogan and wife, Jenny of Ashtabula, Ohio, and James Hogan and wife, Christine of Mentor, Ohio. Bill deeply loved his family and was able to share in the joy of the announcement of a future sibling to Justice Hogan before his death.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and request attendees to comply with social distancing guidelines. A memorial service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery in Ashtabula, Ohio at a later date. Memorial gifts in Mr. Hogan's memory can be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 1358 South Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29073.
