

WEST COLUMBIA – A memorial service for Barbara Thompson Armstrong Stalnaker, 78, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Lexington. Interment services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Albans Episcopal Church, 403 Park Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
Barbara was born January 26, 1933 in Savannah, GA and passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011. She was a daughter of the late Carl S. and Eloise Griner Thompson. Barbara was a 1951 graduate of Savannah High School where she was a member of the Honor Society and selected to attend Georgia Girls State. She was a long term resident of Lexington, SC, where she was very active in the community and a member of The Lexington Woman’s Club, Lexington Arts Association, Lexington County Republican party, and the Columbia Sailing Club Ladies Auxiliary. Barbara was a member of St. Albans Episcopal Church. She was a long term employee of The State Newspaper in the Editorial Department and after her retirement she was a volunteer at Lexington Medical Center as a Pink Lady. She was an avid artist, calligraphist and craftsmaker.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Renee Armstrong Evans (Danny) of West Columbia; son, Robert Lee Armstrong, III of Beverly Hills, CA; grandsons, Corey G. Sturkie (Laura) and Bryce A. Sturkie, both of West Columbia; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Carl B. Thompson and his wife, Rose; brother, James H. Thompson; and sister, Martha Thompson Bell. She was also, predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Robert L. Armstrong, Jr. and husband Harry A. Stalnaker.
