It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin Leon Shealy, who departed from this world on the afternoon of September 29, 2023. Born on February 14, 1959, in Columbia, South Carolina, Benjamin was the beloved son of the late Edgar L. Shealy and Janie Hill Shealy. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Keith Bristow.
Benjamin's journey through life was marked by achievements and a commitment to education. He proudly graduated from Airport High School and later pursued his passion for engineering, earning a degree from the School of Engineering at the University of South Carolina.
In his family circle, Benjamin leaves a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his cherished wife, Karen Benson Shealy, and his loving daughters, Michelle (Sam) and Nicole (Rafael). Additionally, he held a special place in his heart for his children by choice: Joline (Shawn), Daniel (Nichole), and Brittany (Brandon). Benjamin's legacy extends to his adoring grandchildren: Jillian, Adelaide, Isabelle, Karina, Benson, Baker, Evelyn, Raelynn, Oakleigh, and Sage. He also leaves behind his siblings, Ed (Patti) and Essie Shealy, as well as a nephew, Brian, a niece, Erin, and a dear brother from another mother, Scott Benson (Shawntiki).
Throughout his life, Benjamin prioritized his family above all else. He often joked about being surrounded by the wonderful women in his life, affectionately referring to them as his "pride of lionesses." Nature held a special place in his heart, and he shared his passion for the outdoors, particularly on the serene waters of Lake Murray, with those nearest and dearest to him.
As Benjamin embarked on his final journey, he found solace in his favorite place, the lake house he called home, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Benjamin's life will be held on November 12, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
