Beverly a lifelong resident of Lexington, SC was also a member of St. David Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking, camping, beach vacations, and spending time with friends and family. She had an infectious laugh that was recognized by all. She and Chick would visit various Bed & Breakfast locations all over South Carolina – their favorite being Sunrise Farm Bed & Breakfast in Salem, SC. Many knew her as Aunt Bev – not only her nieces and nephews but throngs of other children across Lexington County. After having her daughter in 1976, Beverly and Chick opened their home to other parents looking for familial care for their children. Beverly went full circle as a childcare provider, even looking after the second generation of her original childcare crew. In 2015, Beverly retired from child rearing. She took up reading and studying the Bible. During this time, she enjoyed many trips, ball games, and play dates with her beloved grandchildren. She was famously known for her chili, egg salad and banana pudding. Beverly loved big and loud – you knew she was proud of you, that you made a difference, and that you were loved.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harold “Chick” Roof; daughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Sanders; grandchildren, Garrett Sanders, Blythe Sanders, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, James Zack Rikard and her mother, Evelyn Corley Rikard; and siblings, Annie Margaret (Jimmy) Harmon, Janie (Seth) Keisler, Freddie (Otis) Amick, Zack (Martha) Rikard, Ed (Anne) Rikard, Reed (Suzette) Rikard.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 22 at St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St Davids Church Rd, West Columbia, SC 29170, with visitation to follow. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
