

Charles Edward Crider, Jr. affectionately known as Son to family and friends passed away into the arms of Jesus on Friday, September 5, 2025. Son was born in Calhoun County February 1942, the first child of Eddie and Jessie Rickenbaker Crider. Son graduated from St. Matthews High School in 1962, briefly worked with the SC Highway Department before finding his career at the University of South Carolina in the Print Department for nearly 40 years, a job that he truly enjoyed and had many friendships develop there. Son was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in St. Matthews, enjoyed traveling with his wife Elaine and his in-laws, loved working in his yard, watching game shows on tv and many sports.
Son is survived by his siblings, Janice Price of Gilbert, Cleon Crider (Dodie) of St. Matthews, and Vivian Bell of St. Matthews; nieces, Pam Nichols, Crystal Bell Hair, Dawn Bell, and Amber Strock; and one nephew, Scott Price. He also leaves behind his great niece, Madison Caughman and her son, Barrett, and great-nephew, Zachary Nichols.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Weems Crider; baby brother, John Wayne Crider; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Bell and Wendell Price.
To honor Son’s wishes, there will be no service. We will miss you Son but will reunite in Heaven, keep everyone laughing up there like you did here on Earth. We love you.
