

WEST COLUMBIA – A requiem mass for Doris L. Willoughby, 83, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1512 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC 29201 with the service conducted by Father James F. Lyon, IV.
Mrs. Willoughby was born March 21, 1932 in Atlanta, GA and passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015. She was a daughter of the late George H. Lindsey and Lucille Crawford Lindsey. Her husband of more than sixty years, William Willoughby II died in March of this year.
Beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, Mrs. Willoughby is survived by her son, The Very Reverend Dr. William Willoughby, III (Mary) of Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Katie, Colleen and William Willoughby and sister, Mary L. Mason of Lawrenceville, GA, nieces, nephews and their children.
Doris’ career in nursing began with her qualification at Georgia Baptist Hospital in 1953. Dedicated to learning and her profession, she continued on to receive a Bachelors and Masters of Nursing from the University of South Carolina. She was committed to public health and wellness all of her career serving finally as an instructor in the clinical nursing unit of the BSN program at USC Columbia.
One of her great passions was the rising and training of Samoyed dogs and had to her credit three AKC Champions. She was a dedicated and active Episcopalian and longtime member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Columbia, where memorial gifts in her name may be sent. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
