Dorothy was born in New Jersey to Graydon and Mary Hancock (both deceased) on June 29, 1947. She graduated from JFK Memorial High School in 1965. She worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant for Johnson & Johnson for 30 years until she took early retirement in 2002 to move down to South Carolina to help care for her mother. She was a mother figure and role model to many and a fierce friend. She very much enjoyed reading, gardening, bible study and spending lots of time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her family was first and foremost in her life and she moved mountains to be with them when she could.
Dorothy is survived by her two children, Jennifer O’Connor Klemmer (Bernie) of Newtown, PA and Brian O’Connor of Elgin, SC and two grandchildren Jordan Klemmer and Dylan Klemmer.
She is also survived by her 4 siblings, Donald Hancock (Nancy) of Laguna Hills, CA, Deborah Evangelista (Theodore - deceased) of Elgin, SC, Dennis Hancock (Lisa) of Rock Hill, SC and Dolores Brassard (Peter) of Columbia, SC, along with 23 nieces and nephews, three aunts and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Rd, West Columbia, SC 29170 on Saturday May 2nd at 2:00pm.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the nurses and doctors at South Carolina Oncology Associates and Compassionate Care Hospice who took such wonderful care of Dorothy.
