Jack was born on June 5, 1965, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, to the late Bertha Shields and Edward Jack Shields Sr. He was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
Jack was brilliant, funny, and fiercely loyal in his own way. He had a kind heart, a deep love for nature, and an unshakable dedication to his family. His favorite place was Mt. Pisgah, North Carolina, where he made countless fond memories camping under the stars.
Jack is survived by his sisters, Patricia Shields (Jimmy Chavis) of Gaston, SC, Renee Edwards (Brad) of Irmo, SC, and Denise Pound (Ricky) of Leesville; his nieces, Savannah Chavis of Gaston, Amanda Edwards of Irmo, Ashton Pound and Sierra Pound of Charleston, Sydney Edwards of Irmo and Ashley Wilson of Columbia; his nephews, Claude Wilson (Misty) and Brian Wilson of Gaston, Blayze Pound (Dani) of Moncks Corner and Paul Wilson of Columbia; his stepmother, Ruth Shields of Florida; and his cousins, Paul Timmerman (Tonya) of Batesburg, April Minicik (Daryl) of Batesburg, and many other cousins with whom he shared treasured memories.
Jack was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Claude and Paul Wilson.
Jack was loved unconditionally by his family and friends and will be missed beyond measure. When his sister Patty told him he was going to be an uncle, Jack—then living in Atlanta—moved back to Columbia without hesitation so he wouldn’t miss a single day. He adored Savannah and taught her so much about life. Their bond was unbreakable.
Ashton, Sierra, and Blayze will always remember the day of the epic water balloon fight, when Jack grabbed the garden hose and stormed into the house, soaking everyone and everything in his path. That memory will forever bring smiles and laughter.
Jack earned a bachelor’s degree in Business from Shorter University and worked for many years as a regional sales manager in the granite industry. He was respected for his dedication and professionalism.
His passing leaves a hole in our hearts that no words can fill. We will miss his radiant presence, his ability to light up any room, and his contagious laugh.
We will be honoring and celebrating his life on Saturday September 13, 2025. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. There will be a private burial at a later date.
