His childhood years were spent in Lindenhurst, New York. He attended Suffolk Community College and then moved to South Carolina with his new wife Irene and attended the University of South Carolina.
Ed worked in construction before becoming disabled and his hobby was woodworking. He built a grandfather clock, which was his pride. Several pieces of furniture which are treasured by his wife. After he was disabled, Ed also wrote 2 books which were published, including 'Elephants in the Sky', and 'The Bramble Patch.' He was also working on a book about a family of Charleston, SC making sweet grass baskets. Ed also enjoyed painting seascape scenes. Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus Corpus Christi Church in Lexington, SC
Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene; two sons, John and Ryan Phillips; his daughter-in-law, Kim Phillips; two granddaughters, Amanda Phillips and Madison Phillips; his brother-in-law, Brian Gibson, his wife, Laura Gibson and their son, Joseph Gibson; and his brother-in-law, William Gibson.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he find peace in God's loving presence.
A memorial service will be at Corpus Christi Church, 2350 Augusta Hwy, Lexington, SC 29072 on July 17, 2025 at 11:00AM.
