

Emily McAbee Morgan passed from this world to her heavenly home on September 27, 2025. She was born in Chester, SC on October 28, 1940 to the late William V (Mac) McAbee and Lucy Parker McAbee. She is survived by her son, Tommy Lucas and his wife Camille, and grandson Jack. She is also survived by her dear cousin Carol Bailey and other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Emily graduated from Chester High School and Limestone College before becoming certified as a laboratory technician in Charleston, SC. She later moved to Columbia and retired from the South Carolina Department of Health.
At a young age Emily became an excellent dancer of the Shag, the official dance of South Carolina, which developed in Myrtle Beach and along the coast. Emily would teach friends at the Chester Teen Age Canteen new steps which she learned at the beach during the summers. Many happy hours were had dancing at the canteen, mountain lakes, and the beach. Emily was inducted into the Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame in 2002 at Myrtle Beach which honors the best of the best.
Although Emily suffered with Parkinson's the last 10 years of her life, she never demanded or complained. She loved music, birds, animals, and laughter. She will be greatly missed by her many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 4:00 pm at the home of Tom and Jean Shannon Kirkley in Lexington, SC.
