Funeral services celebrating the life of Evelyn Harris Moore, 96, will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, on Friday, February 6th at 12:00 noon with Rev. Joey Huggins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery.
Evelyn was raised in Belton, South Carolina, in a cherished Southern home full of character and beauty—one she fondly recalled throughout her life. She was the beloved daughter of Lonnie L. Harris and Frances B. Harris. She was a graduate of Belton High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Evelyn was an active member of Shandon Baptist Church until her health declined.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Moore; her sister, Gladys McLean; and her brother, Nimrod Harris.
Evelyn was married to Richard, the love of her life, for over 40 years. Together, they built something beautiful. She became a homemaker in the truest, most meaningful sense of the word—every day marked by care: three warm meals lovingly prepared, every person and creature nurtured. Nothing under her watch went uncared for. This devotion extended to her beloved dog, Millie, who preceded her in death and was a constant source of companionship and joy.
Evelyn is survived by her two children, Leonard (Lisa) Moore of Lexington and Fran (Dan) Bedenbaugh of Gilbert, whom she loved selflessly. Above all else, she adored her grandchildren, Jessica (Rush) Lowther of Okatie and Bradley (Malee) Moore of Columbia, and treasured her five beautiful great-granddaughters: Mia Rose, Lenley Cate, Caris Day, Annie Hayes, and Lucy Brooke. They were her pride and joy. She spoke of them often, watched them closely, and loved them unconditionally. Their accomplishments, personalities, and dreams filled her life, and she carried them in her heart every single day. Her legacy lives on most brightly through them—in their laughter and kindness.
Evelyn had a way of always being “put together”—her hair just right, her makeup perfectly done—not for vanity, but because she believed in showing up for life with intention and grace. In her 90s, she even mastered the iPad, determined to keep up with her children and remain connected to the people she loved.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. She loved her church deeply and loved God even more. Music filled her home and her heart, and sports—especially her Gamecocks—had her loyalty through every win and every hard season.
She delighted in the simple joys: peanut butter, a cold Diet Dr Pepper, and never passing up the chance for something sweet. These small pleasures made her smile, and she made sure to enjoy them fully.
She lived a simple life rooted in faith, family, and quiet devotion. In doing so, she left behind something rare and beautiful: a life well lived and a love that will never fade.
The family would like to sincerely thank those who cared for Evelyn over the last several months. Betty Green was a constant presence in her life, caring for her tirelessly. Caring Healthcare and Amedisys Hospice provided additional care and support, and for them, the family will be forever grateful.
A celebration of life, hosted by her children, will be held at the home of Leonard and Lisa Moore following the burial. All family, friends and neighbors are invited to join us.
