FM “Dick” James, 90, passed away on April 24, 2026. Born September 12, 1935, in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Claude M. James and Grace Kelly James. He was a resident of Prosperity, South Carolina.
Dick served as a Marine and later as a Pastor, lives of duty and devotion that reflected a steady commitment to faith, service, and the care of others. He was proud to serve his country. He also applied his careful eye and practical skill to home drafting plans and architecture, work that spoke to a thoughtful mind and a respect for craft.
He is survived by his wife, Betty R. James; his son, David James (Pam); his daughter, Beth Barfield (David); his sister, Polly Lucas; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Rona James; his grandson, Andrew Barfield; his granddaughter, Katie James; and brother-in-law, Buddy Lucas.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
