COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Frances Smith Owens, 69, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Owens was born April 18, 1943 in Florence, SC and passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Orrie Dale Smith and Geraldine “Jerry” Johnson Smith. Mrs. Owens was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church where she was a founding member of the handbell choir. She was employed with Columbia College as Registrar for 43 years.
She is survived by her son, John “Dale” Owens and his wife, Tonia of Duncan; daughter, Laura Herring of Columbia; brother, Dale Smith of Winnsboro; sister-in-law, Jeanette Hutchinson of Florence; grandchildren, Jacob and Joseph Herring, Daylen and Keaton Owens. She was predeceased by her husband, John Deleon Owens, Jr.
