Frances Elizabeth Roof Roberts, 79, died on December 23, 2025 of pulmonary failure following a stroke. She was the wife of Dr. Al Roberts, and the mother of Dr. David Roberts (Kim) and Dr. John Roberts (Carrie). Her parents were David Evans Roof and Ethel Mae Cromer Roof. She and Al had been married 56 years, after 6 years of dating and engagement, and after sitting in alphabetical order for 4 years at Lexington High School.
She attended Columbia College as an organ major but switched to the University of South Carolina to major in nursing. She worked in the Cardiac unit of Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston while Al was in Dental College there. Back in Lexington, she loved her sons David and John. She loved the Lexington High School band boosters club and fearlessly chaperoned the percussion bus on band trips. She loved Italian shoes and was known as the Imelda Marcos of Oak Grove. She loved her dog, Freckles, and trips to Paris.
She attended St. David Lutheran Church, where she played the organ, taught Sunday School, and corraled Cain and Able in the pews while her husband played the organ in the balcony. The pain of fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndrome took much joy from her life and prevented her from doing many of the things she loved.
Memorials may be made to St. David Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family deeply appreciates the professional staff of Lexington Medical Center, and especially the caring hands of staff from the 4th floor South and 10th floor North Tower. We also appreciate the prayers and concern of St. David Lutheran Church and Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey.
A visitation will be held on December 30, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. David Lutheran Church, located at 132 St. Davids Church Road, West Columbia, SC, 29170, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at St. David Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.
