

Frances Monteree Johnson Wiedemann Vaughan went to be with her Lord Jesus on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother (lovingly called “Boing” by her grandchildren) and friend who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her heart.
Services will be held at Caughman Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel on Friday March 15, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens where she will be interred next to her husband. Carl Wiedemann, Jr.
Frances was born December 4, 1927 in Windsor, SC. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Monteree Johnson. She graduated from Columbia High School and Draughons Business College and was employed by the S.C. Unemployment Compensation Commission.
On May 24, 1947, Frances married her first love, Carl Wiedemann, Jr. of Columbia and later gave birth to two daughters and a son. Surviving are daughters; Rebecca C. (Ron) Pagoota and Barbara F. Corley of Lexington; son, Daniel T. (Lola) Wiedemann; five grandchildren, Robin (Doug) Yates, Jennifer (Ritchie) Adams, Erin Fraley, Ben Hook and Daniel Hook; seven great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Gerry Johnson.
Frances left her employment after becoming a mother to be at home with her children. She and her family lived for many happy years in the Colonial Heights neighborhood of Columbia and were active at the Colonial Heights Baptist Church. On January 3, 1994, Carl went to be with the Lord.
On October 4, 2005, Frances married C.P.O.J. Carl Vaughan, Jr., retired Navy, who was her second love and they lived together happily until he passed away on November 16, 2006. Surviving are stepdaughters, Maria (Charles) Hanson of Newberry and Anita (Rudy) Booth of Columbia, and their families.
She was predeceased by her sister, Gwen J. Lyons of Columbia; brother, Paul M. Johnson of Raleigh, NC; and son-in-law, Ronnie Corley of Lexington.
Frances was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, and adored her cat, Tillie.
The family thanks her longtime dear friend Helen Looney, who was also her hairdresser, for her many years of devotion and loving care.
