Gary Holbrook Evans passed away on March 12, 2016 after a brief illness. He was born in Utica, New York on March 24, 1936 to Mildred "Tillie" Holbrook and Stewart Evans. Gary graduated from and stayed faithful to UFA in 1954 and then entered Syracuse University on a basketball scholarship. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in History and Political Science. Before graduating, he met and married the "irresistible" Suzanne Rivette and they began their 57 year adventure. He was a lifelong sports fan and participant. Gary dragged Susie to many sporting events where they shared a bleacher in the snow, heat and rain even if they didn't know a single participant. Gary and Sue were passionate tennis enthusiasts and, even in the end, Gary was still hoping to get back on the court. His other interests included reading, politics and all activities involving trains. He never passed up an opportunity to take a train ride or view a train layout wherever they traveled and spent hours working on his own layout in South Carolina. His prowess in pinochle was put to the test in games with Sue and his sister, Beverly and brother-in-law, Roger Baldwin in Virginia, which provided many enjoyable hours of laughter and togetherness over decades of family visits. Susie recently passed away on September 10th, 2015. Gary was still mourning her loss with the help of their golden retriever, Trooper. Gary will be greatly missed by their three children; Kimberley Perry, Valerie Jewett, and Grant Holbrook Evans and their spouses; six grandchildren, Evan Holbrook Perry, Austin Whitfield Perry, Monika Frances Perry, Jacob Holbrook Evans, Joshua Maynard Evans and Jessica Mary Evans; and many family and friends. A graveside service will be held at Riverview Cemetery Sunday, August 7th at 1:00 p.m. in Old Forge, NY, and all are welcome.
