

WEST COLUMBIA- Harold Dean Munn, 69, of West Columbia, SC passed away on August 25, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Camden, SC, he was the son of the late Lockard A. Munn and Sarah Sheffield Munn.
He was a graduate of Camden High School where he met his wife, Jane. After two years at the University of South Carolina he enlisted in the US Coast Guard in May 1967 and married his wife of 50 years, Jane B. Munn, on July 11, 1967. He was stationed in St. Petersburg, FL where his first daughter, Hilary Gretchen, was born in June 1970. After leaving the Coast Guard in 1971, his family moved back to South Carolina where his second daughter, Alison Heather, was born in March 1973. During this time, Harold earned an Associate’s Degree from Palmer College.
Harold was a life-long learner and his love of computers and writing guided him to acquire new electronics, PC, and website skills from the Cleveland Institute of Electronics and Texas Instruments Incorporated. This allowed him to obtain different positions from an Electrical Technician to an Information Technology Associate and Programmer at Eastman Chemical Company. He retired after 31 years and, during retirement, he worked in the Biology Department at the University of South Carolina for five years. He was also an educator for Midlands Technical College, teaching electronics for ten years and developing a math course.
Harold was a life member of Springdale Masonic Lodge No. 412 and the Cayce Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of SC and held many local chapter and state appointments, including Grand Representative of South Dakota. He was the Editor of the Palmetto Star News (the South Carolina Eastern Star Newspaper) for three years, Worthy Grand Patron of SC from 2002-2003 and Grand Lecturer 2016-2017. He also planned many convention fun nights and programs.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, L.A., Philip and Hugh Munn.
Surviving are his wife, Jane B. Munn; daughter, Hilary Gretchen Dickinson (Don) of Columbia; daughter, Alison Heather Little (Jason) of Mint Hill, NC; three grandchildren, Emory Catherine and Bryson Thomas Little and Kevin Dickinson (Jennifer); two great- grandchildren, K.J. and Harper Dickinson.
The family will receive friends and family at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel in Lexington, SC on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be a private funeral at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
