
LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Heber Ralph Corley, Sr. “Ripping Ralph Corley”, 80, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Mr. Corley was born March 10, 1934 in Lexington, SC and passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014. He was a son of the late Heber Adam Corley and Alline Gable Corley. Mr. Corley was a life time member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school and was a member of the Lutheran Men in Mission. He was the Lexington County Tax Collector and the Lexington County Auditor. Mr. Corley retired from the State Budget and Control Board. He was a graduate of Lexington High School and Newberry College. He was inducted into the Lexington High School Hall of Fame. He was an Allstate Football player, selected to the Shrine Bowl and played on 3 football state championship teams at Lexington High School. He signed with Auburn University for a football scholarship. Mr. Corley had been chosen as Man of the Year for Woodman of the World, and he was co-founder/past president of the Lexington County Clemson Club.
Mr. Corley was one of the founders of Lexington Little League and Pony League Programs. He coached Lexington American Legion Baseball team from 1972 to 1984.
Mr. Corley was a member of the Rotary Club, JC’s, Lexington County School Board and Clemson IPtay Representative over 40 years.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy C. Corley; children, Rip Corley and his wife, Patricia Ann Corley and Ben Corley; grandchildren, Blythe Corley and Erin Corley; great-grandson, Kason Corley; brother, Marion Corley (Patsy) and many nieces and nephews.
