LEXINGTON – A graveside service for Hilda D. Belch, 88, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 in Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169.
Mrs. Belch was born on June 22, 1928 in West Columbia, SC and passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017. She was the youngest of seven children born to the late Willie Haskell Derrick and Bertha Eunice Shealy Derrick. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church.
Hilda’s interests included gardening and square and round dancing. On a fair weather day, she could most often be found tending to her expertly landscaped and beautifully manicured yard, which was her pride and joy and was admired by all in the neighborhood. She and her late husband, Billy J. Belch, were active members of the Dentsville Stompers and the Rock-A-Round square and round dance clubs respectively. They were well known for their elegant, original matching dance costumes, designed and sewn by Hilda, and the warm camaraderie they shared with their dance club friends.
Hilda is survived by her son, Britt J. Belch; daughter-in-law, Betsy A. Belch of Lexington, SC and her sister, Mrs. Doris Bobb of Charlottesville, VA.
Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
