James Cecil Bradley, 86, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025. Cecil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished member of his community whose life was defined by his unwavering faith, devotion to family, and commitment to service.
Born on July 6, 1938 in Statesboro, Georgia, Cecil was the baby of nine children born to Lewis Tillman Bradley and Anna Laura Bradley. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. Cecil was the last surviving member of his family, including his brothers and sisters: George "Guy" Paul Bradley, Mamie Ruth Bradley Dyches, Pearl "Pete" Nadine Bradley Garvin, Lewis "Sam" Carol Bradley, Lewiss Tillman Bradley, Jr., Betty Lord Bradley, Mary Fay Bradley, and Joan Harper Bradley.
Cecil was a founding member of Oakwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon since 1972, and dedicated much of his life to serving the Lord. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and his commitment to both his church family and community never wavered.
A man of many talents, Cecil had a lifelong love for music. As a young man, he enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, and later became a beloved member of the church choir. He also loved to fish and spend time outdoors, but one of his greatest joys was gathering with his family for Sunday dinners, where he would make his famous “secret” dish, sharing laughter and creating precious memories with his grandchildren.
Cecil’s love for his wife, Chris, was a testament to his character. They shared 63 wonderful years of marriage, a partnership built on love, trust, and devotion. Together, they raised two sons, James Michael Bradley and Lewis Gregory Bradley (deceased). He was a proud and devoted grandfather (Pop) to five grandchildren: Austen, Trevor (Kirstin), Devon, Josh (Halley), and Aaron, and a loving great-grandfather to four: Ethan, Isabella, Westen, and Piper-Anne.
Cecil’s legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will be cherished forever.
A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Oakwood Baptist Church, 3520 Mineral Springs Rd, Lexington, SC 29073, officiated by Grady Parker and John Spires, with burial to follow at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
Cecil will be deeply missed, but his faith, love, and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Cecil “Pop”
