

Lexington - James Wallace “Jim” Shirley, 87, of Lexington, SC went home to his Heavenly Father, Friday, February 24, 2017. Jim was born on January 3, 1930 to the late James Patrick and the late Fannie Wallace Shirley.
Mr. Shirley served in the US Navy for 20 years and was active in the Korean War. He also worked for the University of South Carolina for almost 20 years. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and former member of Taylor Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Jim was a Gideon, Mason, Shriner, and member of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and a member of the gospel singing group, the Sonshine singers.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Shirley H. Shirley of Lexington; two sons, Randy Shirley (Kay) of Chapin, SC and James Wallace Shirley, Jr. (Janet) of Petersburg, TN; three step-sons, David Loftis (Marie) of Honea Path, SC, Mark Loftis of Honea Path, SC, and Steve Loftis (Tina) of Easley, SC; seven grandchildren, Patrick Shirley, Kelly Sarver, Heather Shirley, Victoria, Dustin, Chris, and Tony Loftis and seven great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Knight of Spartanburg, SC and Rebecca Barfield of West Columbia, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by two sisters, Edna Edwards and Martha Pitts of Laurens, SC.
A memorial service, officiated by Sherwood Tidwell, will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Taylor Street Baptist Church in Cayce, SC.
