Lillian Gibbs

COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Lillian Frances Fortune Gibbs, 92, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012 at St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 River Road, Columbia, SC 29212 with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Gibbs was born December 17, 1919 in Spartanburg, SC and passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. She was a daughter of the late John Drewery Fortune and Pearl Parker Fortune. Mrs. Gibbs was a member of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a long-time Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Eastern Star. She also raised two children along with her nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gibbs was retired from General Electric.

Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Gibbs of Aiken, SC; son, Fredrick Gibbs, Jr. (Brenda) of Youngs Island, SC; sisters, Beulah Glover of Lexington and Edith Asmer of Columbia; grandchildren, Leslie Gibbs (Caroline) of Youngs Island, SC, Edward Gibbs (Emily) of Columbia and Pritchet Gibbs of Charleston, SC; great-granddaughter, Lily Gibbs and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Fredrick Gibbs, Sr.
