Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life for Martha A. Worrell on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC. Her family will receive friends and guests following the memorial service at the funeral home.
Mom passed away suddenly on December 24, 2019; she was 70 years old. She was born in Columbia, SC on February 8, 1949 to Charles Watts Worrell, Jr. and Maggie Louise Brazell Worrell, both deceased. She had one older sister, Joanne, who is also deceased. Ms. Worrell is survived by her two children, Tracie Ann Dawkins-Taylor and Randol O’Neal Dawkins, Jr. and three grandchildren, Damon, Alexis and Taylor.
Martha will be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother, who took great pride in being an excellent cook and a loving and dedicated homemaker for her family. Later, as her children became independent, she pursued outside interests, becoming general manager of her father’s truck stop. Following her father’s death, true to her entrepreneurial spirit, she expanded Cheapo’s Truck Stop, adding a restaurant and other related businesses, prior to its sale.
Following her retirement, she relocated to Charleston, SC for a time before returning to Lexington. Though she was not from the coast, she considered it her spiritual home, to which she will be returned. She was also loved by her dog, Sadie. She and Sadie walked many miles on the beach together. Her family, including Sadie, will celebrate her life by releasing her ashes to the ocean at her favorite beach.
