

COLUMBIA – Mary Alice (Webber) Moffat, 91, widow of LCDR Robert Emerson Moffat, formerly of La Jolla, CA in San Diego County passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 in Lexington, South Carolina. Interment will be at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on January 4, 2012, followed by a memorial service at noon in the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oberlin Conservatory, 77 W. College Street, Oberlin, OH 44074.
She was born on November 21, 1920 in Champaign, IL . She was the daughter of the late Hugh E. Webber, and Helen Louise Armstrong Webber. As a young lady she studied violin, viola, and piano and acted as occasional conductor at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she became a pianist of note. She later went on to play the organ. Throughout her life she was frequently asked to be a guest organist at churches and various other venues. She married the love of her life, Robert Emerson Moffat in 1946. She and Robert were blessed with four sons; David, Douglas, Gregory, and Randolph. Mrs. Moffat and their sons followed LCDR Moffat around the world as he pursued his military career, broadening their sons’ knowledge and enrichment of world cultures.
Mrs. Moffat was a devoted wife of 64 years, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be missed. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Moffat of SC, Douglas and Janet Moffat of MA and Randolph and Janice Moffat of IL; six grandchildren, Robert, Kristen, Brandy, Tara, Anna and James and eight great-grandchildren, Thomas, Holly, Avery, Tanner, Shea, James, Jackson and Eliza. She was predeceased by her son, Gregory Moffat, sister, Romayne Ihrig and brother, Hugh E. Webber II.
